Penang

Penang is Malaysia's main manufacturing and technology hub outside the Klang Valley, and its semiconductor and electronics industries bring in expatriate families from North America, Europe, Japan and across Asia. The island has some of the oldest international schools in Malaysia, including Uplands (founded 1955), St. Christopher's (1963) and Dalat, which began in Vietnam in 1929 before settling in Penang. Most international schools are on the north coast of Penang Island, in Tanjung Bungah and Batu Ferringhi, with St. Christopher's in George Town, a secondary and boarding campus in Balik Pulau on the west side, and a British school in Bayan Lepas near the airport. Families can choose between British IGCSE and A Level, the IB and an American curriculum, and three schools offer boarding. Fees are generally lower than in Kuala Lumpur.
