St. Christopher's International Primary School (SCIPS)

St. Christopher's International Primary School (SCIPS) has been educating children in Penang since 1963. It is a not-for-profit, non-denominational school on Nunn Road in George Town, with more than 620 pupils from over 38 nationalities. The main intake runs from Nursery (age 3) to Year 6, with three classes in each year group, and a Prep phase continues to Year 8 (age 13).

Teaching follows a British model. The Early Years use the EYFS framework, English and Maths follow the National Curriculum for England, and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) shapes wider topic learning. Classes are capped at 25 (22 in Nursery), with English as an Additional Language support for children new to English. Older pupils go on residential trips in Malaysia, from Taiping and Cameron Highlands to Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi.

SCIPS was inspected by Penta International under the British Schools Overseas (BSO) scheme in 2017, 2020 and 2024, and says it is the only BSO-inspected school in Penang. It is a member of FOBISIA and was the first school in Asia to introduce the OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) programme. There is no boarding. Contact the school office for current fees and places.
