Surabaya

Surabaya, Indonesia's second-largest city and the commercial capital of East Java, has a small but well-established group of international schools serving expatriate families and Indonesian families looking for an English-medium education. Almost all of them are in West Surabaya, in and around CitraLand, Lidah and Pakuwon Indah, where the city's newer residential estates are. Families can choose between the IB, an American route with AP courses, and British/Cambridge programmes to IGCSE and A Level. The range runs from Sekolah Ciputra, a large IB continuum school with more than 1,300 students, to the small Surabaya Intercultural School and Surabaya European School, where classes are much smaller. Some schools, Sekolah Ciputra among them, hold Indonesian SPK status and teach Bahasa Indonesia alongside an international curriculum.
