American Pacific International School (APIS) was founded in August 1997 by Kritsanant Palarit, opening with Grades 7 to 10 on a rural site in Hang Dong, south-west of Chiang Mai. The school graduated its first class in 2000, gained WASC accreditation in 2002 and describes itself as Chiang Mai's first internationally accredited boarding school. A purpose-built Primary Campus in Mae Hia, closer to the city, opened in 2014 for Pre-nursery to Grade 6.
APIS is an IB Continuum school, teaching the IB Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programmes; it was authorised for the Diploma in 2020 and its first Diploma graduates finished in 2022. The school has more than 400 students across its two campuses and over 20 nationalities among students and staff, and is also certified by ONESQA, Thailand's national quality agency.
The Main Campus is surrounded by villages, rice fields and farms, and runs a residential programme with separate boarding arrangements by gender; boarding fees include three meals a day. Published 2026/27 day tuition at the Main Campus runs from THB 330,750 in Grade 5 to THB 524,800 in Grade 12, with weekly and full boarding charged on top; check the school's fee schedule for primary-campus fees and one-off charges.
