HWA International School began in 2006 as Chinese International School, set up at the invitation of Singapore's Economic Development Board. It was later known as Hillside World Academy. In 2022 it moved from its Hillside Drive site to Marina Square and changed its name. It now teaches across two compact urban campuses. The Marina City Campus at 6 Raffles Boulevard has about 15 classrooms and a multi-purpose room, a short walk from Esplanade MRT. The One North campus inside NTU@one-north on Slim Barracks Rise has about 14 classrooms and a function room.
The school offers the full IB continuum from Pre-Nursery to Grade 12: the Primary Years Programme up to Grade 6, the Middle Years Programme for Grades 7–10, and the Diploma Programme for Grades 11–12. Its defining feature is bilingual, bicultural teaching. Primary classes move between English and Mandarin, and Chinese culture runs through the school year. English, Chinese and mother-tongue (Japanese, Korean, French) support classes are offered for an extra fee.
Classes are small, and the school says it operates below a 1:15 teacher–student ratio. Students come largely from China and East Asia, with growing numbers from Europe, the Americas and Australia. Annual tuition for 2026–27, including GST, ranges from S$23,990 in K1–K2 to S$28,990 for Grades 1–6, S$32,990 for Grades 7–8 and S$42,990 for Grades 11–12. Registration, enrolment and development fees are charged on top.
