Hwa Chong International School

Hwa Chong International School (HCIS) was set up in 2005 with backing from the Ministry of Education and the Economic Development Board. It is part of the Hwa Chong family of schools, whose history goes back to 1919. The campus is at 663 Bukit Timah Road, near the Hwa Chong Institution site. It has grown in stages: an annex building in 2007, the HCIS Residence boarding block in 2011 and a main building that officially opened in 2015. Facilities include a theatre, an indoor sports hall and student study spaces.

HCIS is a secondary school taking students from Year 1 (Grade 7, around age 12) to Year 6 (Grade 12). Its six-year integrated curriculum leads to the IB Diploma Programme in the final two years, with a pre-IB year in Year 4. Teaching is in English, with a strong emphasis on Chinese language and Asian values. Admission is by test, and there are intakes at several year levels.

The school has around 1,000 students. About half are Singaporean or permanent residents, and the rest come from more than 20 countries. Many international students live in the on-campus HCIS Residence, and the school runs its own scholarship scheme. Annual fees are roughly S$30,800 for Years 1–4 and about S$35,300 for the IB years, including GST.
