Sunrise School was founded in 2000 by a group of parents who built it with help from the local community. It is run by the MACK foundation, whose name means 'to cultivate the fire of compassion', and its motto is 'Think Globally, Act Locally, Be Totally'. The leafy campus in Kerobokan Kelod has garden-based outdoor learning, including lotus ponds, herb beds and waste-water gardens.
Children can start in Small World at 18 months, then move through playgroup and kindergarten into Years 1–9. The school uses the International Early Years Curriculum, the International Primary Curriculum for Years 1–6 and the International Middle Years Curriculum for Years 7–9, alongside the Indonesian national curriculum. Teaching is in English, with Bahasa Indonesia and Indonesian lessons for foreign students.
Sunrise puts weight on the whole child: yoga, mindfulness, gardening, non-violent communication and community service are part of school life, and conflicts are handled through restorative practice. Published 2026–27 fees run from about IDR 108 million a year in Years 1–2 to IDR 145 million in Years 7–9, including the annual resources levy.
