Sekolah Montessori Erdkinder Bali opened in 2019 with 12 children. It was founded by the Austrian Montessori educator Gertraud Neuner, with Tjok Agung Kusuma Yuda, head of the Pejeng royal family, as co-founder. The school occupies an eco-designed, octagonal building with solar panels, surrounded by rice fields in Banjar Panglan, Pejeng, east of Ubud.
It follows the Montessori approach in mixed-age groups: Casa dei Bambini for ages three to six, Primaria for ages six to twelve, and an Adolescent Community for ages twelve to fifteen. The elementary programme covers language, mathematics, science, geography, biology, history and music, and older pupils combine academic work with practical land work and community service. The adolescent group, which began in 2022, is still very small. Teachers hold AMI Montessori training, and the school also hosts AMI training courses.
The school is open Monday to Friday, with Primaria running 8:30am to 1:30pm. Published 2025–26 fees are IDR 83 million a year for Primaria if paid upfront, plus a registration fee and an annual capital levy.
