Global Indian International School opened in Singapore in 2002, when it started at Cheviot Hill in the east with a few dozen students. It is part of the Global Schools Foundation, which runs GIIS campuses in several countries. In 2018 GIIS opened its SMART Campus in Punggol. This is a technology-focused site of about 10 acres with two main buildings, and it brought together students from the older Queenstown and Balestier campuses and the East Coast secondary section.
GIIS is unusual in offering several pathways under one roof. Early years follow the school's Global Montessori Plus programme. From Grade 1, families choose either the Indian CBSE curriculum or an international route: the IB Primary Years Programme, then the Cambridge Lower Secondary Programme and Cambridge IGCSE, and finally the IB Diploma in Grades 11–12. CBSE continues through Grade 12 for students who want the Indian national qualification.
The student body is large and mostly Indian or of Indian heritage, with families from many other countries too. Fees are low by Singapore international-school standards, at roughly S$14,500 a year in the early years rising to about S$20,700 in Grades 11–12; families should confirm current fees with the school.
