Sekolah Indonesia Singapura (SIS) was founded on 20 May 1969 and is the only school in Singapore teaching Indonesia's national curriculum. It started with a kindergarten and added primary (SD) in 1970, junior secondary (SMP) in 1971 and senior high (SMA) in 1974. In 1987 work began on a purpose-built campus at 20A Siglap Road, on a plot provided by the Singapore government. The school has operated as a registered private school, Sekolah Indonesia (Singapura) Ltd, since 2016, and the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) remains responsible for it.
The campus is a set of low-rise buildings in a residential street near Siglap and Upper East Coast Road. It has physics, biology, chemistry and computer laboratories, a library, an indoor hall with courts and a stage, an outdoor basketball court, a canteen, a prayer room (mushola), a dance studio and cultural arts room, and rooms for counselling and health. Classes are capped at about 20 pupils.
Teaching follows the Indonesian national curriculum for SD (Grades 1–6), SMP (Grades 7–9) and SMA (Grades 10–12), mainly in Bahasa Indonesia with English, and it leads to Indonesian qualifications for students returning to Indonesia. Admission is aimed at Indonesian children living in Singapore. Fees are far below those of mainstream international schools; contact the school for the current schedule.
