Sinarmas World Academy (SWA) opened in 2008 in the central business district of BSD City, the large planned township in Tangerang Selatan, south-west of Jakarta. Its 5.3-hectare campus won a CEFPI Project of Distinction award in 2009 and has more than 25 student facilities, including a large playing field, a design and technology building and an outdoor amphitheatre.
The school takes children from six months old in its early years section, which follows the English Early Years Foundation Stage. Elementary pupils in Grades 1 to 5 follow Cambridge Primary, and Grades 6 to 10 follow the IB Middle Years Programme, blended with Cambridge IGCSE content and Indonesian national requirements. Students in Grades 11 and 12 take the IB Diploma; SWA has been authorised for the Diploma Programme since 2010 and for the MYP since 2012. The school also runs its own BEST programmes in business, engineering, science and technology.
English is the main language of instruction, with Bahasa Indonesia, Chinese and Korean also taught. More than 70% of teachers are from outside Indonesia and around 40% of students come from more than 15 other countries. Merit scholarships for academics, sport and the arts are available for students joining in Grades 7 to 10. SWA does not publish its fees online, so contact admissions for current tuition.
