New Zealand School Jakarta (NZSJ) was founded in 2002 as the New Zealand Independent School and is now run under a Board of Governors that took over in 2018. It occupies a compact, open-style campus on Jl. Kemang Selatan I in Kemang, South Jakarta, with two playgrounds for younger and older children, multi-purpose courts, a swimming pool, art and music rooms, a renovated science laboratory and a library.
The school takes children from age one in its preschool through kindergarten and Grades 1 to 12. Early years follow Te Whāriki, New Zealand's early childhood curriculum, and the primary years follow the New Zealand Curriculum. In Grades 7 to 10 the New Zealand Curriculum is supplemented with Pearson Edexcel, and in Grades 11 and 12 students choose an English and social sciences or a mathematics and science stream, graduating with the NZSJ High School Diploma. The school does not offer the IB, AP or A Levels. Class names and school values are in te reo Māori.
NZSJ describes itself as a small, family-oriented community with students from around 20 nationalities, about a third of them Indonesian, and offers English-language support for learners who need it. Academic, arts, sports and values-based scholarships cover 25% to 100% of tuition. Published 2026/27 annual fees range from IDR 80 million in preschool to IDR 240–280 million in Grades 7 to 12, depending on the student's nationality.
